Who wrote that speech?

Who wrote Bush's address for yesterday night? I think Bush should've proof-read it before the actual speech, because it really made him sound unintelligent.

First of all, he referred to a 9-11, Iraq connection about 6 times in his speech...even though Rumsfeld, Rice and he, himself have clearly stated that they have found no connection between the two.

Second, if it really is 9-11 and Al Queda that he's concerned about, why isn't he concentrating on finding bin Laden? How could we find Saddam Hussein in a hole after a few weeks, but bin Laden is nowhere to be found after years of searching?

I think Bush needs to find some better speech writers, because speeches like this (where he contradicts himself) really make him look bad.

Please let the poor woman rest in peace!

I can't believe the Schiavo issue is still going on. I feel horrible for her, and the whole situation is, indeed, a tragedy. But it's time for Republicans to leave the case alone. Gov. Jeb Bush is now trying to launch an investigation into the 911 call placed by her husband. Why? Because the autopsy didn't play into his accusations? Is this some lame attempt to save face?

Whatever the reason, I wish they'd lay this issue to rest. Schiavo was a quiet lady who didn't like the limelight. I'm sure she doesn't want to be in the news for this long. And I'm sure she'd be unhappy to know that her husband can't get a moment's happiness after her death...even when the autopsy proved that she suffered no trauma prior to her collapse!

Were we misled?

Well, the hot political news story is the leak of the Downing Street Memo. This memo provides evidence that Bush was set on going to war with Iraq in mid 2002. His administration was more interested in getting rid of Saddam Hussein than the WMD, which they did not consider to be as significant of a problem as they claimed (They acknowledged North Korea and Iran as being of greater threats). The memo also implies their lack of willingness to work with the UN. To be honest, the memo does not offer any information I didn't already know, but I guess the fact that it comes from a credible source makes the situation more real.

Misleading Congress is an impeachable offense, so this memo is going to be big in the coming weeks. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Nothing to get excited about...

Republicans are excited today, because a report shows that Kerry's average score at Yale was 76 vs. Bush's score of 77. So, this proves that Bush is smarter, right?

1) Did anyone take the difficulty of classes into account? It was quite possible (and probable) that Kerry took harder classes.

2) A professor who taught both Bush and Kerry at Yale has fond memories of Kerry and NONE of Bush. That means Kerry made the better impression.

3) Kerry was chosen to speak at his graduation (or some other senior ceremony...the article is not clear). This is a big honor that was not awarded to Bush.

So...I'm a little confused as to why Republicans are so happy about this ONE POINT difference. Overall, it seems that Kerry made the better impression at Yale.

So, was Newsweek right, after all?

Ok, so maybe the Quran was not flushed down the toilet, but the Pentagon confirmed that it was splashed with urine. Is there really a difference? Newsweek may have gotten a lot of bad publicity when the story first came out, but as more information comes out, it seems like they might have been on the right track, after all. (This is why Newsweek is one of my favorite magazines) :)

As far as the resulting violence goes, I understand the Muslim's frustration with the mistreatment of the Quran. However, I don't see how violence is the answer. They can't solve their problems by acting immature. In fact, they might have gotten more sympathy if they had dealt with the situation in an adult manner. By killing so many people, they actually lost out on potential support for their cause.
