Leave God's job to Him

Some "Christians" in Tennesee seem to have messed up God's message. At funerals for two soldiers who died in Iraq, a Reverend and some church members made the claim that soldiers are dying in such large numbers in Iraq, because they are from a country that harbors gay people.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when people who call them Christians speak out so strongly against gay marriage. I'm not gay, so it's not the gay part. It's the Christian part. Making such a huge deal about homosexuality is about as un-Christian as you can get.

1) First of all, it's hypocritical. If you're going to make the claim that God was against homosexuality, you have to also make a big deal about divorce, tithing (giving to charity), the necessity of men marrying virgins only, and women shielding themselves from the world when they're on their period. Yes, these are all in the Bible.

2) Second, it violates one of the two commandments given to us by Jesus. Jesus told us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Well, this is about as far from love as you can get.

3) Third, it violates more of Jesus's words from the Gospel. Jesus tells us not to judge our brothers. So, it seems odd to me that these so called Christians are passing judgement on gay people. They don't seem to understand that it's God's job to judge people, not theirs. If they have something against homosexuality, it's their opinion...not God's. They can't tack God's name onto their stupid claims to give it validity. That, in itself, is a sin.

4) Finally, I'd like to point out that Jesus never mentions homosexuality in the Gospels. It seems that it wasn't a big deal to him. However, he does mention many other things currently condoned by our society. So, either we don't believe Jesus or we're fixing the wrong problems.

So, no more of calling these nutcases who are so strongly against gay marriage "Christians." The real Christians know that it's God's job to judge...not ours.

It's Important to Stay Vague

Recently, there have been numerous protests against the war in Iraq. People don't understand why their loved ones are dying, because the purpose of the war has never been explained to us. Once it became apparent that WMD didn't exist, there was never any back-up reason to justify the thousands killed in this war.

So, now Americans want to know when the troops are coming home. Interestingly, it's a question that the Bush administration won't answer. In his speeches, Bush can only say that we can't bring the troops home right now. Well, we all know that. He's only answering the request of a small percentage of Americans. What America wants to know is when the war will be over. What will Iraq need to look like before we declare victory? What is America waiting for? At what point can Americans declare "mission accomplished?"

I don't think it's an accident that the Bush administration avoids this question. It's too dangerous. If he were to lay out a victory plan and exit strategy, there's a strong possibility that we'd be stuck there for many years to come. By being vague, Bush has the freedom to declare victory whenever he sees fit (probably before the next election). That's why the only exit strategy we'll hear for a while is, "When Iraq stands up, we'll stand down"...No one knows what it means...Yet it gives our president the freedom to pull out whenever he wants to.

Carelessness vs. Stupidity

Just when you thought that Fox News couldn't get any worse, they messed up again by giving out an address in California that supposedly belonged to a terrorist. A couple in California is now suffering, because John Loftus on Fox News made a claim that terrorists lived at their address. Of course (being Fox News), the information was incorrect. The "terrorist" moved out of that house about three years ago, and an innocent couple has taken the brunt of his suspected activities.

The issue isn't necessarily that Mr. Loftus messed up the address. Should he be giving out addresses on national TV anyway? It's like he was hoping civilians would unleash their anger on whoever lived there. That's not the way we're taught to deal with problems, is it? If the previous resident of that home really was a terrorist (a claim yet to be confirmed), let the authorities deal with it. You don't give out the address on national TV, hoping that other people will do the dirty work for you.

The stupidity of this goes far beyond the wrong address!

The perils of passing out

This is so ridiculous, you're going to think I'm making it up. There's a new game among teenagers that is turning deadly. One teenager cuts of oxygen to his/her brain and passes out. Then, a friend revives this person, who will then have a type of high. This game is so dangerous, because unlike drugs, it shows no symptoms after the game is over. So, teens can engage in it for months, and the parents will never know, because the kids will be fine when they talk to their parents later on. Yesterday, a 15-year old girl died from this idiotic game.

I am amazed that teenagers don't know that cutting off oxygen to the brain can cause death...or brain damage. Where were these teens when the Schiavo case was going on? We were told repeatedly that she was brain-dead because oxygen was cut off to her brain for a few minutes. It's amazing. Even with all the entertainment we have today (TV, video games, etc.), teens are still so bored that they risk their lives for a little thrill...

Talk to her

As mentioned in the blog below, Bush is in Crawford to understand what's on the minds of Americans. So, why isn't he talking to Cindy Sheehan? She's an American who has something to say. If Bush were to talk to her, he would be able to understand that there are many Americans out there who don't understand the point of this war. (I just don't get why he only talks to his supporters). Since Bush won't travel the United States to get the "fresh perspective" he wants (an obvious method), Americans have come to him. So, he should take advantage of this and talk to them!

Also, I want to correct my blog below: Spot passed away last year...Barney and Miss Beazley are the current dogs.

On Vacation?

Our president is in the midst of a 33 day vacation to his ranch in Crawford, Texas. Before President Bush, I wasn't aware that the President of the United States was given one month off a year. I was under the impression that being the President of the United States was a full-time job that required constant attention...

According to McClellan, the white house press secretary, the month away in August gives President Bush a "fresh perspective on what's on the minds of American people." I'm a little amused by this. If it's a fresh perspective he wants, perhaps a one month tour of the United States would do the trick. He could mingle with average Americans for one month...then he could really tell us what's on American's minds. In Crawford, the only American's mind he will get into is Spotty's (his dog).

I think I underestimated our president. We are in the middle of a war on terror. Al Queda is clearly not backing down. Osama bin Laden is still missing. Iraq is still a mess. Iran is a looming threat. Yet...Bush has managed to squeeze in a month long vacation. Impressive...
