You're never too young to be a mayor!

I was somewhat shocked to hear that an 18 year old is now mayor of a city in Michigan. He won the recent election by 2 votes. It's a great credit to him, because his name wasn't even on the ballot; he was a write-in candidate. However, I'm amazed at 670 people thought an 18 year old would do a good job at running an entire city. Keep in mind this kid isn't even out of high school yet! What are people thinking? How can an 18 year old have enough expertise to know what to do if any emergency situation arises during his term? How can an 18 year old be expected to have the maturity to handle the whole city and its issues? These must be the same idiots who are responsible for the current disaster we have in Washington, D.C.!

And to think...At the age of 26, I got rejected from some purchasing jobs for lack of experience!

We can all relax now...

...Tyra's boobs are real.

Tyra Banks, apparently in her own little world, was concerned that all of us were talking about her breasts, so she decided to use up one of her shows to convince the public that she had no implants. After a touch-test and sonogram, Dr. Fisher from Extreme Makeover declared that they are, in fact, real.

It's nice to know that some people haven't lost sight of the important issues in life...

Breaking News!

"Brownie" has been removed from the relief efforts. Not sure what this does (too little, too late)...but at least we can rest assured that his incompetence won't be negatively affecting the relief efforts anymore!

I also want to add that I don't understand why he is being kept as the director of FEMA. If he can't handle the biggest disaster to hit our country in years, what's the point of him heading up the Federal Emergency Management Agency?

UPDATE (9/12/05): Brown has resigned.

The Real Americans

Ok, there's plenty of blame to go around when it comes to the Hurricane Katrina Disaster. The federal government, the local government, FEMA...didn't do all they could to prevent the disaster and/or send relief soon enough. We've heard it numerous times by now.

But let's talk about the hundreds of Americans who have rearranged their lives to help out the victims of the disaster. Familes are opening up their homes to the new homeless. Hundreds of people are leading fundraisers to send money to the relief efforts. Celebrities are sending millions of dollars. People in Cincinnati are letting displaced college students stay with them temporarily…the list of wonderful Americans far exceeds the few idiots we choose to focus on.

Many people in other countries judge us by the morons who "represent" our country. But after this disaster, it is clear that Americans, in general, are wonderful people. When needed, most will do as much as they can to help their fellow citizens. It really brings into perspective how different rulers can be from the rest of their country. I hope other countries are hearing about the real Americans and how they are responding to this disaster. Maybe the rest of the world will come to realize that Americans aren't really the bullies we come across to be.

Carelessness vs. Stupidity

Just when you thought that Fox News couldn't get any worse, they messed up again by giving out an address in California that supposedly belonged to a terrorist. A couple in California is now suffering, because John Loftus on Fox News made a claim that terrorists lived at their address. Of course (being Fox News), the information was incorrect. The "terrorist" moved out of that house about three years ago, and an innocent couple has taken the brunt of his suspected activities.

The issue isn't necessarily that Mr. Loftus messed up the address. Should he be giving out addresses on national TV anyway? It's like he was hoping civilians would unleash their anger on whoever lived there. That's not the way we're taught to deal with problems, is it? If the previous resident of that home really was a terrorist (a claim yet to be confirmed), let the authorities deal with it. You don't give out the address on national TV, hoping that other people will do the dirty work for you.

The stupidity of this goes far beyond the wrong address!

The perils of passing out

This is so ridiculous, you're going to think I'm making it up. There's a new game among teenagers that is turning deadly. One teenager cuts of oxygen to his/her brain and passes out. Then, a friend revives this person, who will then have a type of high. This game is so dangerous, because unlike drugs, it shows no symptoms after the game is over. So, teens can engage in it for months, and the parents will never know, because the kids will be fine when they talk to their parents later on. Yesterday, a 15-year old girl died from this idiotic game.

I am amazed that teenagers don't know that cutting off oxygen to the brain can cause death...or brain damage. Where were these teens when the Schiavo case was going on? We were told repeatedly that she was brain-dead because oxygen was cut off to her brain for a few minutes. It's amazing. Even with all the entertainment we have today (TV, video games, etc.), teens are still so bored that they risk their lives for a little thrill...

How life has changed!

Today, a flight from LAX to London was diverted to Boston, because three Pakistani men were "moving about the cabin."  After questioning, they were let go and given permission to continue on to London. It seems so silly. These guys were on a long flight and were probably trying to stretch their legs...something we all do on long flights. But with the numerous terrorist attacks that have plagued our world over the past few years, people are so paranoid. It's really sad! Although I disagree with these types of accusations, I have to say I understand the reasons for them. As wrong as it was to question these Pakistani men for such a silly matter, people are so scared now! And with each terrorist attack, people get more and more paranoid. It's a sad world, really!
