Leave God's job to Him

Some "Christians" in Tennesee seem to have messed up God's message. At funerals for two soldiers who died in Iraq, a Reverend and some church members made the claim that soldiers are dying in such large numbers in Iraq, because they are from a country that harbors gay people.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when people who call them Christians speak out so strongly against gay marriage. I'm not gay, so it's not the gay part. It's the Christian part. Making such a huge deal about homosexuality is about as un-Christian as you can get.

1) First of all, it's hypocritical. If you're going to make the claim that God was against homosexuality, you have to also make a big deal about divorce, tithing (giving to charity), the necessity of men marrying virgins only, and women shielding themselves from the world when they're on their period. Yes, these are all in the Bible.

2) Second, it violates one of the two commandments given to us by Jesus. Jesus told us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Well, this is about as far from love as you can get.

3) Third, it violates more of Jesus's words from the Gospel. Jesus tells us not to judge our brothers. So, it seems odd to me that these so called Christians are passing judgement on gay people. They don't seem to understand that it's God's job to judge people, not theirs. If they have something against homosexuality, it's their opinion...not God's. They can't tack God's name onto their stupid claims to give it validity. That, in itself, is a sin.

4) Finally, I'd like to point out that Jesus never mentions homosexuality in the Gospels. It seems that it wasn't a big deal to him. However, he does mention many other things currently condoned by our society. So, either we don't believe Jesus or we're fixing the wrong problems.

So, no more of calling these nutcases who are so strongly against gay marriage "Christians." The real Christians know that it's God's job to judge...not ours.

Is it really God's word?

Everyone talks about "God's word" when the debate of gay marriage comes up. According to some, it's "God's word" that homosexuality should not occur. I have two comments on that.

1) This does not occur anywhere in the Gospels, which is considered the most Holy part of the Bible by Christians. However, Jesus does say that a man should not divorce his wife. So, since we're suddenly so concerned with God's word, how about taking away the ability to divorce each other? After all, Jesus was clearly more concerned with this than homosexuality!

2) The issue of gay marriage does come up in Leviticus, which is what people are referring to when they use the "God's word" argument. However, the same book also says the women are considered dirty when they're on their period and shouldn't be seen in public. So, are these people who have taken the gay marriage sentence to heart also keeping women secluded during their time of the month?

Perhaps we should address the issue of hypocrisy before we tackle homosexuality...
